Patrick Karegeya

Patrick Karegeya (* 1960 in Mbarara , Uganda , † the end of December 2013 or January 1, 2014 in Sandton , South Africa ) was a Rwandan intelligence and Chairman of the Secret of Rwanda .

Karegeya earned a bachelor's degree from Makerere University in Uganda and joined the National Resistance Army in the battle to oust Milton Obote . He was charged with high treason in Uganda in 1982 and served three years in prison. After his release, he fought alongside Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame . From 1994 to 2004 he was head of the foreign intelligence service of the Rwandan armed forces and thus held one of the most important functions in the country. He later turned away from Kagame and criticized the government's policies. He was then removed from his post in 2006 and went into exile in 2007. While in exile, he publicly criticized the Rwandan government.

On January 1, 2014, Karegeya was found murdered in a hotel in Sandton. Rwandan President Kagame reported Karegeya's death with the words: “You cannot betray Rwanda and get away with it. There are consequences if you betray your country. ”Comments.
