Patrick Lyon, 1st Lord Glamis
Patrick Lyon, 1st Lord Glamis (* 1402 - March 21, 1459 ) was a Scottish nobleman and courtier .
Life
He was the son and heir of the Scottish knight Sir John Lyon of Glamis († 1435) and his wife Elizabeth Graham. In 1435 he inherited Glamis Castle from his father . His paternal grandmother was Lady Johanna Stewart († after 1404), daughter of King Robert II.
After the Knights had been beaten, he became in 1424 the British hostage for free permitting from English captivity King James I found in 1427 and Patrick was allowed to return home in exchange for another hostage.
On June 28, 1445 he was raised to Lord Glamis by Letters patent . Under King James II he held various court offices around 1450 and was a member of the Privy Council . In 1451 and 1455 he was the Scottish ambassador to England. From 1456 to 1459 he was also castellan ( keeper ) of the royal castles of Kildrummy , Kindrochit and Balveny .
Marriage and offspring
Before 1459 he married Isabel Ogilvy, daughter of Sir Walter Ogilvy of Lintrathen, Treasurer of Scotland. He had five children with her:
- Alexander Lyon, 2nd Lord Glamis († around 1486)
- John Lyon, 3rd Lord Glamis († 1497)
- William Lyon of Easter Ogil († after 1498)
- Patrick Lyon († after 1481)
- Elizabeth Lyon ∞ Alexander Robertson of Struan
