Patrick Rampillon (born July 4, 1955 in Bressuire ) is a former French football player and coach.

Player career

Rampillon began playing football at SO Cholet , for whom he ran up as a regular player in the second division in 1975/76. Although he had to accept the direct relegation with the promoted team, but he aroused the interest of several professional clubs and in 1976 was signed by the first division team Stade Reims . Even if he made his debut in the top French league for the club, he only made two appearances there and was mainly on for the reserve team. After moving to league rivals AS Saint-Étienne in the summer of 1977, the same situation arose and Rampillon also returned to this club after a year with two first division games. He was part of the reserve team of Saint-Étienne for another year until he signed with the second division side Stade Rennes in 1979 . In this, the fight for promotion was unsuccessful, but the player initially held a position in the starting eleven. Under coach Jean Vincent he came in the course of the 1983/84 season but not beyond a single use, so he decided at the end of his active career.

Coaching career

Rampillon began working as coach of the Rennes reserve team as early as 1983, a year before the end of his career. He stayed in this post until he was promoted to coach of the first team during the winter break in 1986/87. As such, he failed in his mission to save the team from relegation from the first division. The then 31-year-old decided to end his coaching career. Nevertheless, he remained loyal to Rennes, where he took over the management of the training center for young footballers that same year. From 2006 onwards, it has been honored several times in a row as the best training center in France.

family

Patrick Rampillon is the younger brother of the French national soccer player Gilles Rampillon, who was born in 1953 .
