Volvo Ocean Race route 2014-2015

The Volvo Ocean Race 2014/2015 was a sailing regatta that started in Alicante ( Spain ) on October 4th, 2014 . On June 22, 2015, the winning team, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing Team, arrived at the destination port of Gothenburg in Sweden .

Rule changes

While each team developed an individual boat within the framework of the regulations in the previous editions of the race, identical yachts of the Volvo Ocean 65 class were used in this regatta. For the first time in the history of the Volvo Ocean Race and its predecessors, this race was held in a single class. After a lot of material damage and losses due to overbred designs had been recorded in the two previous races, this decision was made in favor of safety, but also the lower financial requirements for participation in the regatta. To further reduce costs, these boats should be used in at least two regattas.

Scoring

The Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015 was held as a stage race. This time only the nine ocean stages were counted for the placement. The results of the in-port races were evaluated separately and only used for placement in the event of a tie. The so-called low-point system was used for the first time. The winner receives one point, the runner-up two points, and so on. The winner was the team that had scored the fewest points at the end of the regatta. If a boat was eliminated, it received an extra penalty point.
