Iker Martínez de Lizarduy Lizarribar (born June 16, 1977 in San Sebastián ) is a Spanish sailor .
successes
Iker Martínez took part in the Olympic Games three times with Xabier Fernández in the 49er dinghy . In 2004 they finished the regatta in Athens in first place in front of the Ukrainian and British boats. You became Olympic champion with 67 points . At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 they prevailed against three other boats in the final medal race in order to achieve second place behind the Danes Jonas Warrer and Martin Kirketerp and thus win the silver medal. In London they did not get past 12th place four years later . After a silver medal in 2001 in Malcesine Martínez and Fernández were in the 49er dinghy 2002 Kāne'ohe , 2004 in Athens and 2010 in Freeport each champion . In addition, between 2002 and 2008, the two became three European champions together. From 2013 Martínez started in the boat class Nacra 17 , in which he won the European championships in 2017.
In the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015 he was the skipper of the yacht Mapfre , which took fourth place. He was also a participant in the regatta from 2005-2006 ( movistar ) and 2008-2009 ( Telefonica Black ). In 2011, the World Sailing Association named Martínez and Fernández World Sailors of the Year . He is married and has three children.
