Patrick Schnetzer (born November 15, 1993 ) is an Austrian cyclist . He won the Junior European Championship three times in a row from 2009 to 2011, became the youngest cycling world champion in history in 2011 and is seven-time world champion (2011-2019).

Career

At the Austrian championships for pupils A, Schnetzer took third place in 2005 and became Austrian champion in 2006. He started his career at RV Sulz and moved to RC Höchst in 2006.

In 2007 he started with the youth team and again reached first place. In 2008 and 2009 he was able to hold this place in the juniors again. In 2009 he also became European junior champion. In 2010 he moved from the juniors straight to the first division, where he then played with Dietmar Schneider .

Although he was only 16 years old, he was hugely successful with the elite in his first year. In 2011 he received the Golden Merit of the Republic of Austria .

At the beginning of 2013 Dietmar Schneider ended his active career and Patrick Schnetzer then played in the new season together with the highest Markus Bröll .

In November 2017 he started with Markus Bröll at the Indoor Cycling World Championships 2017 in Dornbirn and the two became vice world champions after a 3: 4 in the final against Germany.

In November 2018 he won the world champion title for the sixth time with Markus Bröll in Liège and in December 2019 he again secured the seventh world champion title with Markus Bröll in Basel .

In January 2020 he won the overall World Cup again at Markus Bröll's final tournament. As the only team to date, the two have won all four World Cup tournaments and the season's World Cup final. After the final tournament he changed clubs and has since played with Stefan Feurstein for RV Dornbirn.

Patrick Schnetzer is in a relationship with the German art cyclist and multiple world champion Nadja Thürmer .
