Patrick Walliser

Patrick Walliser (* 1951 in Aberdeen ) is a Swiss musician and has been professor for score and piano reduction at the UdK Berlin since 1992 .

Life

Patrick Walliser spent his early childhood in Scotland, Northern Ireland and southern England, his school days with piano lessons and basic musical subjects in Baden-Württemberg. In 1974 he received a diploma at the School for Eurythmy Art and Art Reisinger Berlin. From 1974 to 1978 he studied conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts with Hans-Martin Rabenstein.

He then worked as a solo repetitor at the stages in Kiel until 1980 and had his first conducting successes with Hansel and Gretel . At the Theater Ulm he was 1980-1983 study director, music director and assistant to the music director . During this time he conducted twelve repertoire pieces of musical theater. He also received instruction in song accompaniment from Irwin Gage and in recitative playing from Johann Sonnleitner.

From 1983 to 1992 Walliser was solo repetitor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with a focus on Wagner, Strauss and Modernism (world premieres). In 1987/1988 he also worked as assistant to Gary Bertini in Frankfurt am Main and from 1990 to 1994 as assistant to Giuseppe Sinopoli in Berlin, Rome, Taormina and Milan. Since 1992 he has been professor for score and piano reduction at the UdK Berlin. From 1993 to 2003 he organized song recitals and chanson programs and published CDs.

Walliser also worked as a pianist and coach at the Komische Oper Berlin from 2001 to 2006. From 2003 to 2006 he was co-conductor of Johannes Kalitzke at the Steirischer Herbst / Opera Bastille, at the State Opera Unter den Linden and at the Theater an der Wien (world premieres by Bernhard Lang and Hans Zender ). Since 2000 he has appeared as a pianist in the major Berlin orchestras and the DOB as well as a harpsichordist (figured bass) in the Berlin Chamber Orchestra. He also works with various singers.

In 2018, Walliser won the contemporary sacred music composition competition as part of the European Church Music Festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd .
