Patrick Zachmann (* 1955 in Choisy-le-Roi ) is a French photographer and has been a member of the Magnum photo agency since 1985 .

Zachmann has been working as a freelance photographer since 1976. He works on long-term photographic projects on the topics of cultural identity, memory and immigration. His first project lasted ten years. Between 1977 and 1987 he dealt with the autobiographical topic of Jewish identity. In 1989 he reported on the events in Tian'anmen Square in Beijing . From 1989 to 1995 he devoted himself to the photographic documentation of the Chinese diaspora. In 2009 Zachmann produced a film about the Tian'anmen generation to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Tian'anmen massacre . In 2011–2012 he photographed African refugees under the heading "mare mater". The work documents the fate of African immigrants on their way from North Africa across the Mediterranean to Europe. Zachmann has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1985, and in 1990 he became one of the few full members.
