Paul-Eerik Rummo (born January 19, 1942 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian writer , poet and politician .

life and work

Paul-Eerik Rummo is the son of the writer Paul Rummo . After graduating from high school in Tallinn, he studied literature from 1959 to 1965 at the University of Tartu . His first publications were in 1957. He then worked at the Vanemuine Theater in Tartu and at the Draama Theater in Tallinn. He is also active as a freelance writer (mainly poetry ), translator from English and Russian and as a politician. He belongs to the Reform Party ( Reformierakond ).

Paul-Eerik Rummo is a long-time member of the Estonian Parliament and was Minister of Culture and Education of the Republic of Estonia. From April 2003 to April 2007 he was Minister of Population in the Estonian government.

In 1966 Paul-Eerik Rummo received the Juhan Liiv Poetry Prize and in 2005 the Literature Prize of the state cultural capital foundation .

He is married to the actress and writer Viiu Härm (* 1944) and has four children.
