history

1951 began the establishment of a boarding school in the Bad Hotel Bad Überkingen for cooks and waiters. There were around 250 trainees in gastronomy professions in Württemberg and North Baden. The sponsorship was the city of Stuttgart ( commercial school in Hoppenlau ) and the owner was the welfare association of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baden-Württemberg.

In 1964 a school building was built in the alleyways for 1,500 students. Before that, the lessons took place in the Bad-Hotel.

In 1978 the association was founded. The two-year apprenticeship as hotel and restaurant assistant was new at the school.

In 1980 the training for the hotel and restaurant assistant took place. At the same time there was a change in the catchment areas, the administrative district of North Baden was given up. The job title waiter became restaurant specialist and hotel and restaurant assistant became hotel specialist. In 1985 the number of students increased to over 2000. An extension was built. In 1987 the Association of Former Students was founded.

From 1992 a new educational offer for high school graduates was created. The additional qualification “Kitchen and Service Management” is offered as part of the training to become a cook or restaurant specialist. In 1996 the additional qualification “hotel management” was added as a further offer for high school graduates for the profession of hotel manager. This offer opens up the possibility of acquiring the qualification “Hotel specialist with European qualification” (for more details see educational offers and references below).

In 1998 the second extension building was inaugurated.

In 2000, the renovation of the old building from 1964 was completed. In 2001 it was called “50 years of the state vocational school”. In 2005 the training of the skilled occupation for system catering began . On February 16, 2006 the school received the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Günther Oettinger.

The school became an examination center for the ECDL in 2007 .

By 2009 the number of students rose to around 2,400. The provision of lessons can only be achieved through outsourced classrooms. In addition to renting four classrooms in the boarding school of the restaurant association and in the fire station in Bad Überkingen, two further classrooms were built in container construction in 2008. In order to ensure the high quality of teaching in practical and technical classes, an additional kitchen and another computer room were set up in 2009.

Namesake

Paul Kerschensteiner (1934–1995) was a student in the first block of lessons at the state vocational school in 1951. Later, as a member of the board of the welfare association, he campaigned for the development of the state vocational school in Bad Überkingen and the associated boarding school. Grants from the welfare association for the expansion of the school are due to his commitment.

On the occasion of his 60th birthday, Kerschensteiner, who was elected President of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baden-Württemberg in 1989, founded a foundation. The foundation's assets serve to support the work of the school and boarding school.
