The commercial school Im Hoppenlau (GSIH) in Stuttgart is a vocational school in the commercial sector in Baden-Württemberg . It is located in the west of Stuttgart .

history

On June 19, 1926 , it was inaugurated as a “trade school” - with departments for the book trade, graphics , clothing, food professions , dental technicians, fine metal professions and gardeners . In 1933 the specialty classes of bakers were added. In 1936 the specialist classes for tailors , shoemakers , upholsterers and chemical technicians were transferred to Stuttgart-Feuerbach. The graphic and printing professions also became independent after the Second World War . Cooks and waiters were handed over to the state vocational school for the hotel and catering trade - Paul Kerschensteiner School - in Bad Überkingen . Gardeners and florists migrated to Stuttgart-Hohenheim . In return, dental assistants and millers came to the school, pastry chefs and saleswomen in the food trade, as well as medical and veterinary assistants. Master schools were established for dental technicians , butchers , confectioners , millers and sales managers.

The main building from 1926 on the corner of Rosenberg and Seidenstrasse was destroyed in 1944 , but rebuilt after 1945. A part of the building was added in the forest road. However, there was not enough space, so that two professional groups each had to be taught in branch offices (Am Klingenbach 19 and Siemensstraße 52a).

The name "Hoppenlau" probably comes from the "Lohe des Huopo", a small forest that belonged to a tribal prince named Huopo. The neighboring Hoppenlauffriedhof also bears this name.
