Paul A. Miedtke

Paul August Miedtke (born September 25, 1894 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † March 24, 1959 ibid) was an American musician and march music composer of German immigrants.

Life

His father Peter Miedtke (1844–1911) emigrated to the USA in 1890 from what was then Stretzin in the Schlochau district in West Prussia. His mother was his second wife Wilhelmine, geb. Kraske (1855-1903).

After he had secured the copyright for his composition of the March Milwaukee First in 1915 at the age of 20 , the doctor JH Junge presented a piece of the same name shortly afterwards. Miedtke had dedicated the march to the Milwaukee Merchants 'and Manufacturers' Association (Milwaukee Association of Commerce) founded in 1861 . He himself was working as Assistant Secretary at the Milwaukee Produce & Fruit Exchange at the time .

In 1918 he secured the rights for his Great Lakes 2nd Regiment March .

One month after his death, he was buried with military honors on April 24, 1959.
