Paul Annesley Gore

Paul Annesley Gore ( February 28, 1921 - September 11, 2012 ) was a British colonial official .

life and career

Gore was born on February 28, 1921 to Charles Henry Gore (1881-1941) and the Hon. Violet Katherine Annesley († 1963). He is the oldest of three siblings. He attended Winchester College .

He later served in the 16th / 5th Lancers and achieved the rank of captain . He fought in World War II .

He completed his studies at Christ Church with a Master of Arts .

From 1948 to 1965 he worked in the colonial administration in Uganda . From 1955 to 1959 he was Deputy Finance Secretary of Mauritius . and from 1959 to 1962 Finance Secretary of Gambia . Gore was Deputy Governor of The Gambia from 1962 to 1965.

Honors

In 1961, Gore became Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO). He became a companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1964.

family

Gore married Gillian Mary Allen-Stevens, daughter of Captain Tom Edmund Allen-Stevens, on March 9, 1946. They had three sons, one of whom died in 1985.

He lived in Woodbridge , Suffolk (as of 1999).

He was also the likely title heir ( Heir Presumptive ) of his distant cousin Arthur Gore, 9th Earl of Arran until his death , as he is descended in a direct line from Arthur Gore, 2nd Earl of Arran . The new title heir is now his second oldest son, William Henry Gore (* 1950).
