Paul Carling

Paul Anthony Carling (born June 17, 1953 in Bridgwater , Somerset , England ) is an English geographer and professor emeritus of physical geography at the University of Southampton .

life and work

Carling studied until 1974 with a bachelor's degree in geography at Leicester University . He then moved to the University of Wales , where he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Oceanography in 1977 .

After graduating, he worked as a senior scientist at the NERC Institute of Freshwater Ecology in Windermere until 1994 . In 1994 he accepted an appointment at the University of Southampton. His scientific focus is on the exploration of paleo floods , sedimentation of meteorite impacts in Southeast Asia and sedimentation in the mouth of the Severn .

Carling is a member of the British Standards Institution , the British Hydrological Society, the British Geomorphological Research Group and the International Association Sedimentologists. He is co-editor of several books.
