Jürgen Herget

Jürgen Herget (born September 28, 1965 in Hagen ) is a German geographer and professor at the University of Bonn .

Career

Jürgen Herget grew up in the Hagen districts of Kabel and Helfe and passed his Abitur in 1985 after attending the Boele secondary school and the Hohenlimburg high school.

From 1986 to 1993 he studied geography with the minor subjects geology , soil science , social history , economic history , history of technology , hydrology and water management at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

In the following years he worked at the Hygiene Institute Gelsenkirchen and the Geographical Institute of the Ruhr University Bochum . In 1996 he did his doctorate on the development of the Lippe Valley .

He then worked as a research assistant at the Department of Physical Geography in Bochum and habilitated there on Ice Lake breakouts in the Siberian Altai Mountains . In October 2002 he was given a full professorship for physical geography at the Geographical Institute of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

His main research interests include paleohydrology , geomorphology , ice age research and landscape ecology .

Herget is deputy chairman of the Bonn Geographical Society.
