geography

Districts of Lippetal

Lippetal lies to the left and right of the Lippe between the city of Hamm in the west and the city of Lippstadt in the east. Other neighboring communities of Lippetal are Ahlen in the north-west, Beckum in the north, Wadersloh in the north-east, Bad Sassendorf in the south-east, Soest in the south and Welver in the south-west. Lippetal is located south of the Lippe on the northern edge of the Soester Börde and north of the Lippe in the southern Münsterland . The Lippe flows from east to west through the municipality. The agricultural community is characterized by fields and pastures. Small forests are scattered between the fields. The landscape to the north of the Lippe is characterized by farms that are scattered between the fields; to the south of the Lippe, most of the buildings are grouped together in villages. This corresponds to a typical difference between Münsterland and Soester Börde. The border between the Catholic dioceses of Münster and Paderborn, the former rulers, still runs through the town along the Lippe in Lippetal.

Community structure

Lippetal consists of a total of eleven districts: Brockhausen , Heintrop-Büninghausen , Herzfeld , Hovestadt , Hultrop , Krewinkel-Wiltrop , Lippborg , Niederbauer , Nordwald , Oestinghausen and Schoneberg. history

The municipality of Lippetal was created by the municipal reorganization on July 1, 1969. The community emerged from eleven villages from the Soest and Beckum districts . In the course of this territorial reform, the entire district of Soest, to which the municipality of Lippetal was assigned, was reorganized. The name "Lippetal" was the planning name for this municipality in 1969. It has not been changed as in most of the surrounding communities.

In the north of Lippetal on the edge of the Beckum Mountains, there is a fortification known as a Germanic camp, which consists of earth walls.

Places such as Oestinghausen (first mentioned in 1189), Lippborg (first mentioned in 1189), Hovestadt (first mentioned in 1213) and the pilgrimage site of Herzfeld (first mentioned in 786 ) are the oldest settlements in Lippetal.

Hovestadt Castle, which secures the transition over the Lippe , was first mentioned in a document in 1292. Due to its strategic location, the castle was destroyed and rebuilt several times during the Middle Ages. The castle, located as a moated castle directly on the Lippe, was built from 1563 and has been repeatedly changed and expanded to its present form.

The “Brücke e. V. Association for History and Homeland Lippetal " promotes historical and local history topics in Lippetal and has been running an archive open to the public since 2007 as well as a working group on family research.

The magazine "Der Lippetaler" appears nationwide in the municipality of Lippetal. The lavishly produced booklet is distributed free of charge to households and via display points every two months and is financed through advertisements in which primarily the trade from Lippetal and the surrounding area is presented. The current editions are available from the municipal administration in Lippetal-Hovestadt, among others.

With a certificate from the District President in Arnsberg dated July 1, 1971, the municipality was granted the right to carry a coat of arms, a seal and a banner. The community also has a logo.

Blazon : "In silver (white) a wide oblique blue wave bar, this is covered by an oblique left bridge in plan view."

The wave bar symbolizes the eponymous Lippe (" Redendes Wappen "), while the "golden bridge" stands for the merger of several communities on both sides of the Lippe to form the new Lippetal community. Unfortunately, the golden bridge in silver violates heraldic rules (see Tinging ), eagles and swords come from the coat of arms of the bailiffs of Soest , who owned Welver Castle.

Description of the seal: "The municipality has an official seal with the municipality's coat of arms and the inscription."

Description of the banner: "The banner is blue to white in two strips of equal width and shows the municipal coat of arms on the shield in the upper half."
