The non-profit association Museumseisenbahn Hamm eV (MEH) works to preserve historic railway vehicles and the Hamm – Lippborg line.
history
In May 1977, the Hammer Eisenbahnfreunde (HEF) was founded as a department of the Verkehrsverein with the aim of preserving historical railway vehicles that played an important role in the city of Hamm , including the special railway junction of the DB .
In 1983, after a considerable expansion of the vehicle collection, another non-profit institution was founded - the Society of Patrons of the Museumseisenbahn Hamm e. V. -, now owner of all vehicles, since 1990 railway transport and infrastructure company. In the same year, the section of the Ruhr-Lippe Railway (about four kilometers in length ) that was threatened with closure (Hamm) -Schmehausen-Lippborg-Heintrop was taken over with a subsequent total renovation that was almost completed in 2006.
MEH maintains two siding at the Hamm RLG station for the workshop and vehicle parking, which is now called Hamm Süd - presumably in order to better distinguish it from the DB station in Hamm (Westf). Originally, however, this name belonged to a stopping point at 1.8 km. Remnants of the platform edge of the Hamm Süd stop can still be seen there.
In addition to a scheduled use on the RLG line Hamm – Lippborg-Heintrop, special trips are made within a 250 km radius in the Deutsche Bahn network . There was close cooperation between the Hamm Museum Railway and the Westphalian Railway Museum in Münster . After the dissolution of the Münster Museum in early 2011, the museum exhibits from Münster were taken over by the Hamm Museum Railway.
