Paul Divjak

Paul Divjak (* 1970 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer, artist, cultural scientist and fragrance expert.

Life & Work

Paul Divjak studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Vienna. He is transdisciplinary in the fields of literature, film, photography, music, performance, installation and olfactory science. Divjak deals with phenomena of perception, cultural sign systems and questions of individual and collectivized memory.

In addition to his theoretical examination of the subject of fragrances and smells, for example in the essay volume The Smell of the World or in the non-fiction book The Perfumed Man , Paul Divjak designs perfumes (including Wiener von Welten and Wienerin von Welten ) and fragrance installations, among others. a. Last year in Jerusalem in the garden of the Jewish Museum in Hohenems, in the Prater the trees are in bloom again , with which he toured some districts of the city as part of the We Are Vienna Festival 2016, and The Smell of the Moon as part of the exhibition Der Moon for the Natural History Museum Vienna.

Paul Divjak also appears regularly as a columnist. In 2011 and 2012 he wrote the mixed sentence column for the daily newspaper Der Standard together with the cultural journalist Thomas Edlinger . The Urban Legends column appears in the Jewish city magazine WINA .
