Paul Ehrke
Paul Alexander Ehrke ( March 18, 1840 in Schwerin - September 9, 1893 in Hamburg ) was a German opera singer ( bass ) and singing teacher .
Life
Thanks to Ehrke's father Ludwig Heinrich Ehrke, who was the valet to Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II and therefore enjoyed free admission to the theater, which his children also enjoyed, Paul Ehrke's passion for the theater was sparked. His brothers were the later painters Eduard Ehrke (1837–1911) and Julius Ehrke (1836–1899).
At the request of his father, however, he had to do a commercial apprenticeship in Güstrow. However, he did not finish his training and since his voice developed, he took singing lessons from Kammersänger Wilhelm Hintze . Later he perfected his bass with the tenor player Friedrich Rebling and made his debut on October 1, 1861 in Lübeck. In 1865 he moved from there to Rostock, then went to Vienna to practice a few roles with Hofkapellmeister Felix Otto Dessoff . He then took on an engagement in Leipzig, where he worked for nine years under Theodor von Witte , Heinrich Laube and Friedrich Haase , before Bernhard Pollini hired him for the Hamburg Opera .
On July 1, 1891, the artist was hired as a singing teacher for the Hamburg Conservatory, but died two years later.
