Paul Jason Green (born April 10, 1983 in Pontefract , England ) is an English - Irish football player .
Career
In his youth Paul Green played for the Doncaster Rovers and in 2001 he moved to the first team, which was then still playing fifth class. After a year he had already established himself as a player in the starting eleven and then made it through to Football League One , the third highest division in England, in two years . While the team was establishing itself in the league, he remained a reliable player in Doncaster midfield. In the 2007/08 season, the team reached the promotion play-offs and made promotion to the second division, the Football League Championship , with its participation .
Still, Green left after seven years in the senior Doncaster area and joined the Premier League relegated Derby County . There he belonged to the first team from the start and became a key player. However, he was also affected by injuries again and again, so that he could only play two thirds of the league games in four years. His contract expired in 2012.
National team
After Paul Green had established himself at Derby County, he got a chance in the Irish national team in May 2010 . Green is actually English, but because of his Irish ancestors he can also compete for the Republic of Ireland. On May 25, 2010 he made his debut in a friendly against Paraguay, two days later he started against Algeria and scored his first international goal.
Then he was also used in qualifying for the European Football Championship in 2012 , but missed the decisive phase and the two play-off games in which the Irish secured participation due to a long-term knee injury. Before the European Championship, he was only used once as a substitute in the national jersey. Nevertheless, at the end of May 2012 he was accepted as a replacement for the injured Keith Fahey in Ireland 's EM squad .
