Paul Grunwaldt

Paul Grunwaldt (born January 18, 1891 in Berlin ; † June 7, 1962 in Weingarten (Württemberg) ) was a German painter and representative of Berlin Expressionism . He was a member of the Novembergruppe artists' association .

life and work

Paul Grunwaldt was an apprentice at the Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur in Berlin (KPM) from 1905 to 1909 . After his time as a soldier (1914–1918), he joined the flower painting department at the KPM. He studies at the teaching institute of the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin and works from then on as a freelance painter. He becomes a member of the November group founded in December 1918 and participates in several exhibitions of this artists' association. A Berlin memorial plaque for Grunwaldt was unveiled on June 21, 1989 at Raschdorffstrasse 82 in Reinickendorf .

Paul Grunwaldt left an extensive artistic work behind. His wife, who died in 1983, wanted the pictures to go to his hometown. Large parts of the artistic estate were transferred to the Reinickendorf district.

Exhibitions

  • 2015: The Stadtmuseum Berlin chose the work “Varieté” by Grunwaldt from 1925 as the cover picture for the exhibition “Dance on the Volcano - The Berlin of the Twenties in the Mirror of the Arts”.
  • In 2015/16 the salon gallery presented “Die Möwe” in a group exhibition “In the shadow. Works by forgotten modern artists ”u. a. Works by Grunwaldt.
  • 1987: Paul Grunwaldt, oil paintings, watercolors, drawings , exhibition by the Reinickendorf Art Office as part of Berlin's 750th anniversary.
  • 1980: The Berlinische Galerie shows a work by Grunwaldt in its exhibition “Art in Berlin from 1930 to 1960”.
