Paul Henderson (born May 23, 1956 ) is a retired American - French basketball player .

career

The six-  foot-tall winger from the US state of California was a member of the Butte College team before moving to the University of Southern California (USC) in 1976 . Henderson played 26 games for USC in the 1976/77 game year (11.8 points, 7 rebounds / game).

From 1979 to 1991 Henderson was under contract with the French first division club EB Orthez . In 1986 and 1987 he became French champions with Orthez under coach George Fisher . Henderson scored 13 points on average in the 1985/86 championship season and 13.9 in 1986/87. In his early days in Orthez, in particular, the American, who married a French woman in the course of his career and was given French citizenship, was an outstanding scorer: In the 1980/81 season, Henderson was the best scorer in the league with 27.2 points per match . In 1984 he won the European Korać Cup with Orthez , in the final against Red Star Belgrade he scored 20 points. In the semi-finals of the European Champions Cup , he failed with the team in the spring of 1987, finishing third just short of jumping into the final. When he left the team in 1991, he did so as the best scorer in the club's history.

Between 1991 and 1993 Henderson ended his professional career with the first division club Montpellier. After the end of his career, he was assistant coach at Élan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez until summer 2012. He sued against his dismissal, the club was sentenced in 2014 by a labor court to pay a fine of 37,500 euros to Henderson.
