Paul Friedrich Hofer (born July 10, 1858 in Thun , † August 11, 1940 in Bern ) was a Swiss historian .

Life

Hofer was born on July 10, 1858 as the son of the politician Johann Friedrich Hofer in Thun. He was employed as an official in the Federal Department of Justice and Police . From 1903 to 1931 he was head of the federal civil registry office . Paul Hofer died on August 11, 1940 at the age of 82 in Bern.

Act

Paul Hofer worked as an author of local historical studies, especially on the Thun region. He published Swiss coins and medals on the numismatic topic. Furthermore, together with Rudolf Wegeli , he created the catalog of the coins of the Roman Republic in the Bern Historical Museum . Furthermore, Hofer put on a collection of views of the city of Thun, today kept as a deposit in the Art Museum Thun , as well as a coin collection , today visible in the Historical Museum in Bern. In 1940 the association " Former Thun Prögeler (VTP) " was able to acquire the extensive collection of graphics about Thun from him.
