Paul Khoury

Paul Khoury (born September 19, 1921 in Derdghaya near Tire , Lebanon ) is a Lebanese philosopher with a focus on the philosophy of religion .

After studying literature and philosophy at the École Supérieure des Lettres in Beirut, from which he graduated with a licentiate, he studied theology, philosophy and Islamic studies in Rome ( Gregoriana ), Strasbourg, Paris (with Paul Ricœur and Maurice Merleau-Ponty ) and Bologna . He received his doctorate from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the University of Leiden (Netherlands) in 1965 with a thesis on Paul of Antioch , Melkite Bishop of Sidon (12th century) .

He taught as a professor of philosophy at various university faculties in Lebanon ( Université Saint-Joseph , University of St. Esprit , Saint Paul Institute of Philosophy and Theology , Harissa). He was also a visiting professor at the Universities of Heidelberg and Münster.

His main research interests are the Christian Orient and the relationships between Christianity and Islam.

Paul Khoury is the brother of Adel Theodor Khoury .
