Paul Knapp (archaeologist)

Paul Knapp (born October 1, 1851 in Ulm , † September 8, 1908 in Tübingen ) was a German high school teacher , archaeologist and classical philologist .

Knapp, son of a Protestant pastor, attended the Lyceum in Esslingen and from 1865 to 1869 the Protestant theological seminar in Blaubeuren . From 1869 he was a member of the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen and studied Protestant theology at the university there . After participating in the war in 1870/71 , he studied Classical Philology in Tübingen with a special interest in archeology with Adolf Michaelis and Ludwig Schwabe . In 1874 he received his doctorate in Tübingen. From 1874 to 1876 he served as a grammar school vicariate in Tübingen. For 1876/77 he received the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute and traveled with it in Italy. He then worked briefly as an assistant teacher at the Lyceum in Esslingen. From 1879 to 1881 he was repetitive in Tübingen and held archaeological lectures at the university during this time. From 1881 until his retirement in 1907 he worked as a grammar school professor at the grammar school in Tübingen.
