Paul Kukuk

Paul Kukuk (born April 10, 1877 in Düsseldorf , † September 15, 1967 in Bochum ) was a German geologist .

Life

Kukuk was the son of a merchant. After practical training at the Clausthal Mining Authority, he studied mining in Munich, Aachen and Berlin with the mountain trainee examination in 1902 and the mountain assessor examination in 1906. He then worked as a geologist at the Westphalian Mining Trade Union Fund in Bochum. In 1920 he received his doctorate in Bonn and in 1924 he completed his habilitation in applied geology in Münster. In 1930 he became an associate professor and in 1939 an adjunct professor in Münster in addition to his work as a senior geologist at the Westphalian Mining Union Fund.

He is known for his monograph on the geology of the Ruhr area (hard coal and overburden) and maps on mineral deposits. A geological-palaeontological collection built by him is in the German Mining Museum in Bochum.

He was an honorary member of the Geological Association , an honorary doctorate from RWTH Aachen University and since 1938 a member of the Leopoldina .
