Paul Lamford

Paul Adrian Lamford (born August 30, 1953 in Carmarthen ) is a Welsh gaming and gambling expert, author and editor. He is a three-time Welsh chess master, British backgammon champion in 1993 and 2001 and a grand master in bridge .

During the 1990s he was the editor of Games & Puzzles magazine, as well as chess and bridge magazines in the United Kingdom. Between 1998 and 2005 he was also a guest on the BBC 4 radio show Puzzle Panel several times .

In addition to these jobs, he works for a London- based information technology company in the gambling sector.

In 2014 he won the Chairman's Cup in Örebro , organized by the Swedish Bridge Association .

In 1983 he shared first place in the Welsh Chess Championship with Stephen Collin James , Iolo Ceredig Jones and Arthur Howard Williams . In 1988 Arthur Howard Williams was as good as Lamford again, but in 1989 he was finally able to claim this success for himself. At the Chess Olympiad he represented Wales four times ( 1982 , 1984 , 1986 and most recently in 1988 ) and achieved an overall result of 50%. He had his highest rating between 1979 and 1981 with 2315. 1986 he became international referee, currently he is listed as inactive. In 1990 he was awarded the title of International Master in correspondence chess .
