Eberhard Loosch

Eberhard Loosch (born October 5,  1954 - † October 12, 2016 ) was a German sports psychologist and university professor .

Life

Loosch operated wrestling at competitive sports level. He studied social psychology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena , completed his doctoral thesis in Jena in 1986 and his habilitation  in 1990 . The latter was entitled "Holistic Principle and the Problem of Invariance in Motor Skills". After the end of the German Democratic Republic , Loosch was one of the first sports scientists to make contact with colleagues in the West. After the reorganization of the "Movement and Training" section of the German Association for Sports Science in 1991, he was a member of the newly created Sports Motor Skills section from the start. For 1992 and 1993 he was awarded a scholarship from the German Research Foundation and spent a research stay with Richard A. Schmidt at the University of California, Los Angeles in the United States .

In 1995 Loosch took up a professorship for kinetics and sports psychology at the University of Erfurt , which he held until his death in 2016. He also brought his knowledge of sports science to bear in the practice of bobsleigh at the Oberhof performance base . His main research interests included variability in athletic and artistic movements, perception and movement, as well as epistemological and historical aspects of movement science.
