Paul Marciano

Paul Marciano (* approx. 1952 in Debdou , Morocco ) is an American businessman from Morocco who, together with his brother Maurice, largely runs the fashion brand Guess? owns.

Life

Marciano comes from a Sephardic family whose ancestors had lived in Morocco since the Jews were expelled from Spain in the 16th century. His great-grandfather, grandfather and father were already well-known rabbis in the Jewish community of Debdou. After the establishment of the State of Israel , most of the Jews in Morocco emigrated there in the 1950s. The Marcianos went to France , where Paul grew up in Marseille .

According to tradition, Marciano was sent to a training center for rabbis in Strasbourg in Alsace at the age of nine , which he left after two weeks. At 16 he went to a kibbutz in Israel because of problems at school . From there he was brought back by the family to the south of France and began to work in the small clothing factory of one of his brothers. The MGA company had a few shops on the Riviera .

After visiting California in 1977, the Marciano brothers decided to go there in 1981. You founded the Guess company ? Inc. , which was one of the first to manufacture stonewashed jeans . Charity

Marciano is one of the benefactors of the great Sephardic Synagogue in Los Angeles , Em Habanim . In 2014, he donated US $ 5.2 million to the US charity Friends of the Israel Defense Forces .

Art foundation

In 2013, the Marciano Brothers Art Foundation bought the former Scottish Rite Masonic Temple on Wilshire Boulevard for US $ 8 million in Los Angeles because the exhibition space in the Guess? are no longer large enough for the scope of the collection.
