Paul Michel (chess player)

Paul (Pablo) Michel (born December 27, 1905 in Alzenau , † September 14, 1977 in La Plata , Argentina ) was a German chess player .

At the German championships in Aachen in 1935 , which Kurt Richter won, and in Bad Oeynhausen in 1938 , which Erich Eliskases won, he came in second place.

For his result at the unofficial team tournament Chess Olympia 1936 in Munich (9.5 points from 12 games) he was awarded the silver medal. After leading the German team to victory at the 1939 Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires , Michel and his teammates Erich Eliskases (1913–1997), Ludwig Engels (1905–1967), Albert Becker (1896–1984) and Heinrich Reinhardt (1903) returned –1990) no longer returned to Europe because of the outbreak of war , but began a new life in South America.

Michel received the title of International Master in 1956 .

His best historical rating was 2664 in January 1946. According to this recalculated rating, he was in 15th place in the world rankings in July 1945.
