Paul Niculescu-Mizil

Paul Niculescu-Mizil (born November 25, 1923 , † December 6, 2008 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian communist politician and for several years Deputy Prime Minister of Romania.

Life

Niculescu-Mizil joined the Romanian Communist Party (PCR) in 1945 . In the following years he rose from the rector of the party college " Ștefan Gheorghiu " in 1955 to the deputy director of the Historical Institute of the PCR and at the same time was a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PCR until 1989 . In the following year he became head of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the PCR and held this office until 1968. In 1965 he was elected a member of the Political Executive Committee of the Central Committee, of which he remained until Nicolae Ceausescu was overthrown in 1989.

In 1972 he was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Romania. In addition to this office, he also held the office of Minister for Education and Instruction until 1976, before he was also Minister of Finance between March 7, 1978 and March 30, 1981. He then became President of the state-owned company CENTROCOOP until 1989.

For his services to the Communist Party of Romania he was awarded the “40th medal” in 1961. Anniversary of the founding of the PCR ”(“ A 40-a aniversare de la înființarea Partidului Comunist din România ”). In August 2008 he underwent an operation in Germany, already seriously ill.

After the fall of Ceausescu, he was sentenced to three years in prison, but was pardoned by President Ion Iliescu .
