Paul Quirin

Paul Quirin (born April 8, 1934 ) is a German association functionary and politician of the SPD .

Quirin was the mayor of Heusweiler from 1964 to 1973 . His dismissal by the Saarland Interior Minister Ludwig Schnur was due to the regional and administrative reform in Saarland . In 1975/1976 he became administrative director of the district hospitals in Halberg and Völklingen. From 1989 to 1998 he was managing director and from 2006 to 2011 chairman of the supervisory board of Saarland-Heilstätten GmbH .

In addition, Quirin was the first chairman of the Saarland State Association of Workers' Welfare from 1986 to 2012 . Under his long-standing leadership, the AWO Saar developed into one of the largest charities in southwest Germany. The number of employees grew from around 1,400 in 1986 to over 5,000 in 2012. In the same period, the regional association's total assets had almost quintupled.

politics

Quirin joined the SPD in 1964. From 1970 to 1975 Quirin was a member of the SPD parliamentary group for one electoral term in the Saarland state parliament . When Horst Köhler was re- elected as Federal President on May 23, 2009, Quirin was a state delegate member of the 13th Federal Assembly .

Honors

In 2006 Quirin received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his great commitment in the social-charitable and socio-economic area . As part of the AWO state conference in September 2012, Quirin was appointed honorary chairman of the Saar workers' welfare organization and was honored with the highest award of the AWO federal association, the Marie Juchacz plaque . In 2014 he was awarded the Max Braun Medal by the Saarland SPD .
