Paul Rishell (born January 17, 1950 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American blues guitarist.

Life

He gained his first musical experience in the early 1960s as a drummer in a band from Connecticut that played rock 'n roll and surf music. In 1963 a friend played him recordings of Son House , Robert Johnson , Charlie Patton and Blind Lemon Jefferson , which began his lifelong love of the blues. Until 1970 he improved his playing on the acoustic and electric guitar more and more and he became a sought-after accompanist and studio musician. He has appeared with Son House, Johnny Shines , Sonny Terry , Brownie McGhee and Howlin 'Wolf . In 1975 he began his career as a solo artist. In the mid-1980s he took a break from music to start a family, but in 1987 he signed a recording deal with Tone-Cool Records . His first album Blues on a Holiday earned critical acclaim. During the recordings for his second Tone Cool album (Swear to Tell the Truth) he met Annie Raines , with whom he has performed since then, both as a duo and with a band.
