from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Schick (born March 29, 1904 in Vienna ; † April 1, 1975 ibid) was an Austrian librarian who, together with his wife Sophie , earned merit for the estate of the writer Karl Kraus .

Life

Paul Schick was a doctor of law who returned to Austria and Vienna from exile in 1946 . Although he was re-enrolled in the bar, from which he had previously been excluded on "racial grounds", he began to work for Viktor Matejka in the city administration. As a librarian at the Vienna City and State Library , he was responsible for the split up estate of Karl Kraus , which he looked after and brought together. Together with his wife Sophie Schick (born Rowinska, June 22, 1914 in Warsaw, died November 5, 1995), dealing with Kraus became a central life task. With a Rowohlt picture monograph in 1965 he made an important contribution to the understanding of Kraus' biography. In 1964 he also curated the first exhibition about Kraus.
