Paul Schwerdt

Paul Schwerdt (born October 22, 1899 in Nebra ; † February 18, 1959 in Alsdorf ) was a German politician of the KPD .

Schwerdt was a miner from 1928 to 1931, after which he was unemployed during the Great Depression until 1933. He was a member of the KPD even before 1933. For political reasons he was taken into “ protective custody ” by the National Socialist government from February to November 1933 in Aachen . Between 1934 and 1936 he was imprisoned in the Rheinbach prison for “preparation for high treason”. After another investigation by the Gestapo between September and October 1937, Schwerdt worked again in the mining industry until 1946.

From 1945 he was party secretary of the KPD. In 1946 he was a member of the Provincial Council of North Rhine and between 1946 and 1947 a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia .
