Paul Volkmann (physicist)

Paul Volkmann (born January 12, 1856 in Bladiau , district of Heiligenbeil ( East Prussia ); † April 15, 1938 in Königsberg ) was a German physicist and rector of the University of Königsberg.

Life

Volkmann was born the son of a Protestant clergyman. From 1875 he studied mathematics and physics at the University of Königsberg , where he received his doctorate in 1880. From 1880 Volkmann worked as assistant to Woldemar Voigt in Königsberg . Volkmann completed his habilitation in Königsberg in 1882 and was appointed associate professor in 1886. At the same time he became director of the mathematical-physical laboratory and the mathematical-physical seminar at the University of Königsberg. In 1894 Volkmann became a full professor of physics at the University of Königsberg. In the 1907/08 year of office he was elected rector of the University of Königsberg. In 1924 he retired.
