Paul Wing
Paul Reuben Wing (born August 14, 1892 in Tacoma , Washington , USA , † May 29, 1957 in Portsmouth , Virginia , USA ) was an American assistant director , film producer and film actor .
biography
Paul Wing was born the son of doctor Peleg Wing and his wife Ida in Tacoma, but grew up in Virginia. The parents' marriage was divorced in April 1912, a few months before Paul Wing married Martha Gillis Thraves, only 18 years old, on December 25, 1912 at the age of 20.
Wing had to move to World War I two years later as a soldier , after which he took a position at Paramount Pictures . In the 1920s and 1930s became Wing to a successful health club employee who only than many films film production manager responsible, but always remained unmentioned in the credits.
After he had supported director Karl Brown as assistant director of the silent film Stark Love in 1927 , he assisted Henry Hathaway in staging the film drama The Lives of a Bengal Lancer in 1935 . For his work, Wing was awarded the Oscar in the then existing category Best Assistant Director in 1936 .
Wing, who was an avid pilot, barely survived a plane crash in 1935. Between 1936 and 1937, during his rehabilitation period, he was forced to produce a radio show for NBC . He was also seen for the first and only time as an actor in front of the camera in 1935, in the comedy film Hold 'Em Yale .
Paul Wing died in 1957 at the age of 64.
He and his wife Martha had three children, two daughters and a son. While the son chose a private life away from show business, his daughters Toby Wing (1915-2001) and Pat Wing (1916-2002) became better known as both became actresses.
