Paul Wojtkowski
Paul Wojtkowski (born December 20, 1892 in Wollstein , † April 14, 1960 in Nordhausen ) was a German communist politician .
Wojtkowski was a trained wire-puller and had been a member of the German Metalworkers' Association since 1910 , before joining the SPD in 1913 . But in 1917 he switched to the USPD and in 1920 to the KPD . For the party, he sat on the city council of Essen and was a member of the Prussian state parliament .
In 1930 Wojtkowski became secretary of the KPD district leadership in Ruhr and in 1931 of the district leadership in Upper Silesia . In 1933 he fled to Berlin, worked as a locksmith and in 1938 was sent to the Buchenwald concentration camp . After the end of the war, he became a member of the KPD's zone management in the British occupation zone and went to Thuringia in 1947 , where he performed various tasks in the SED and on the state executive committee of the Free German Trade Union Federation . In the state elections in 1950 he was appointed a member of the Thuringian state parliament and was vice-president there, 1953–1960 district administrator or chairman of the council of the Nordhausen district .
In 1990, Paul-Wojtkowski-Strasse in Nordhausen-Ost was renamed Karl-Meyer-Strasse .
