Paul Franciscus van der Heijden (born September 18, 1949 in Utrecht ) is a Dutch legal scholar .

Life

Van der Heijden studied law at the University of Amsterdam , where he graduated in 1975 with a master's degree in law. On September 12, 1984 he received his doctorate from the University of Leiden with the thesis "A fair trial in labor law?" (Kluwer, Deventer 1984). From 1985 he worked as a judge at the District Court in Amsterdam, in 1987 he was professor of law at the University of Groningen and in 1990 a professor of labor law at the University of Amsterdam, where he was also dean of the law faculty. He was director of the Hugo Sinzheimer Research Institute for Labor Law in Amsterdam and Chairman of the Amsterdam Interdisciplinary Institute for Advanced Labor Studies. In 2002 he became rector of the Amsterdam Alma Mater and on February 8, 2007, he moved to the same position at the University of Leiden. He gave up this position in February 2013 and returned to his scientific work.

Van der Heijden's scientific work deals with employment contracts, the basics of labor law, the fundamental rights of common politics and public administration. They appeared in the Dutch and foreign legal journals. He also holds the Jean Monnet Professorship of European Law at Bielefeld University , is an advisory member of the European Commission in Brussels, was head of the delegation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the international labor conference in Geneva from 1995 to 2002 and chairman from 1998 to 2000 of the Committee for the Implementation of Agreements and Recommendations at the International Law Commission (ILC).
