Zetman is a manga series by Japanese artist Masakazu Katsura that has been published in the weekly Shūeisha magazine Young Jump since 2002 . The series deals with the story of Jin Kanzaki and Kōga Amagi, who are in constant rivalry and represent different ideals. Both have superhuman powers. Jin was born with this and is known as ZET, while Kōga takes advantage of advanced technology and is called Alphas.

The manga series was implemented as an anime television series in 2012 by the animation studio TMS Entertainment .

action

In the near future, an elitist group will delight in bloody wrestling matches between mutant beings called players . In this betting spectacle, however, an incident occurs one day that ends in a catastrophe. The players get out of control, kill everyone present, and finally escape. The only survivors are 13 players and two scientists. One of the two holds a mutated baby, Jin Kanzaki, in his arms, which he tries to protect. The mutation can be recognized by a ring that is stuck under the skin on the back of the hand.

After a jump in time, Jin is shown as a teenager who is growing up in a homeless area. Despite his good-natured nature, he lacks essential aspects of human interaction. He cannot distinguish between good and bad and has no idea of death or emotions such as pity or sadness. Nevertheless, he manages to build up a friendship with the same age Kōga Amagi and his sister Konoha Amagi. Together they roam the city trying to thwart crimes. However, it is already clear here that Jin and Koga have very different views of justice. While Jin demands money for his help, Kōga tries to get him to see this as voluntary service for nothing, which Jin cannot really understand. In particular, there is also a big financial gap between the friends, because Kōga comes from the rich, traditional Amagi family.

During one of the night patrols, Jin, who is already showing great powers, saves prostitute Akemi Kawakami from a group of thugs. She shows herself to be generous and finally thanks him by paying him the promised wage of 10,000 yen, which the somewhat late arriving Koga had turned down, and also leaving him her address. Meanwhile, however, the homeless area is attacked by a player. Everyone is killed. The only survivor is Jin's foster father, who can only leave him a few words before he dies. In the last conversation it becomes clear that Jin has no idea what it means to be dead. So he packs the corpse in a shopping cart and tries to find help to cure the "disease". He also tries to consult Kōga via mobile phone, but fails because Kōga's father got wind of the nightly forays and destroyed Kōga's phone during the call. So in the end all that remains for him is Akemi's address, who is shocked by the situation, but ultimately takes him in like a son of her own.
