Education and career

Paula Bosch completed an apprenticeship as a restaurant specialist at the Hotel Vorfelder in Walldorf . From 1978 to 1981 she worked as Chef de rang in the Leimeister wine tavern in Königstein im Taunus , where she concentrated more and more on wine advice, which earned her the reputation of being the first (female) sommelier in Germany. When she applied for the position of sommelier at the Hotel Inter-Continental in Frankfurt during this time, she was rejected. An application to Pflaums Posthotel in Pegnitz was also rejected.

Finally, in 1981, Bosch was hired as head sommelier at the Hotel Inter-Continental in Cologne . From 1985 to 1991 she worked in this position at Günter Scherrer's restaurant Victorian in Düsseldorf . During this time in particular, she earned the reputation of being one of the best in her field. When the editorial team of Gault Millau awarded the title of "Sommelier of the Year" for the first time in 1988, the choice fell on Paula Bosch. From 1991 to 2011 she was employed by the 3-star restaurant Tantris in Munich and was responsible for the 35,000-bottle wine cellar. In July 2011 she started her own business as a wine consultant.

As an author, Paula Bosch has written a number of wine books and guidebooks or has contributed to them as a co-author. Between 1996 and 2003 she wrote weekly wine columns for the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . Paula Bosch continues to write articles for wine and gourmet magazines and works as a wine commentator for Bayerischer Rundfunk.
