Pflaums Posthotel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pflaums Posthotel at Nürnberger Straße 8-16 in Pegnitz was a well-known hotel that was owned by the Pflaum family for seven generations.

history

The hotel was founded (rebuilt) in 1707 as "Gasthof Schwarzer Adler" by Johann Pflaum. At that time there were five rooms available to guests for overnight stays. Over time, the house, which benefited from its proximity to Bayreuth , developed into a five-star superior hotel with two restaurants and 45 boutique art rooms (Laura Ashley and Missoni) and Europe's first designer suites (architect Dirk Obliers, Rosenthal, has received several awards). The guests of the house included Michael Jackson , who celebrated his 34th birthday there, Mikhail Gorbachev , John Travolta , Andy Warhol and Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger , as well as James Levine , in whose honor a suite in the style of Carnegie Hall was furnished when he was signed the contract as general music director of the Munich Philharmonic in Pegnitz , tenor Plácido Domingo , Roberto Blanco , Walter Scheel , Konsalik , Birgit Nilsson , Franz Josef Strauss , Hans-Dietrich Genscher , Helmut Schmidt , Leonard Bernstein and others.

Pflaums Posthotel was the first hotel in the world to offer its brochure on CD-ROM, and it was the first hotel in Germany to have an “Internet bar for Napoleon's saber”, gourmet operas and other events were offered; Herbert Rosendorfer wrote an opera that was performed in the hotel swimming pool. At the design fair and international hotel and restaurant exhibition in New York Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and in the Waldorf Astoria NY, Pflaums Posthotel was awarded two gold medals for the most beautiful suites "Venus in Blue" and "Parsifal". The creations came from the former Rosenthal designer Dirk Obliers . In 2000, Andreas Pflaum was one of the founders of the German Academy for Culinary Studies and the Culinary Forum Rhein-Pfalz. In 2002, Andreas Pflaum, who ran the hotel with his brother Hermann , was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

In 2007, PPP fell victim to the banking and economic crisis. When SchmidtBank went bankrupt, Pflaum lost its stake in the bank and its financing. Participation certificates should compensate for the loss or secure the future. The hotel became the temporary property of the Ukrainian investor Yuri Salnikov. According to the ideas of the parties, PPP should also be managed by the previous shareholders of the KG and OHG Andreas and Hermann Pflaum after the takeover. The existing employment contracts should continue to run at the current conditions, but for life. Andreas Pflaum, who had been named Hotelier of the Year in 1997, soon left the management, Salnikow's Liechtenstein company "Staros Anstalt" also went bankrupt in 2008 and Pflaum's Posthotel came into the possession of the mailbox company Recors Ltd. in the British Virgin Islands .

In December 2010 discussions arose about selling the hotel to Winfried Stöcker, the founder of Euroimmun AG. At the beginning of February 2012, the middle section of the hotel complex was demolished.

At the beginning of 2017, the complex was sold by Jurij Salnikow to the company HD Bau, Dieter Hofmann. This plans in the direction of residential development.
