Paulpietersburg is a city in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It belongs to the eDumbe parish in Zululand district . In 2011 it had 1,859 inhabitants.

The city was named after President Paul Kruger and General Piet Joubert .

Paulpietersburg is located in the north of KwaZulu-Natal, roughly in the middle of the route from Durban to Johannesburg . Places in the vicinity are Vryheid (45 km), Piet Retief (55 km) and Utrecht (66 km). The city is at an altitude of 1128 meters at the foot of the Dumbe Mountains .
