The St. Paulus Church is a Roman Catholic church building in Recklinghausen . In terms of the dimensions of the nave, it is the largest church in the city, while its tower, at 69  m , is a few meters behind those of the neo-Gothic Church of Our Lady and St. John's Church ( 75  m each ) and the baroque dome of the Petruskirche ( 72  m ).

Building history

The church was built in 1906 in the form of a neo-Romanesque basilica . Instead of the planned two towers, only one tower was built. The church is a listed building.

Furnishing

The sights of the church include the Stations of the Cross from 1917, the triumphal cross with the four evangelists on the beam ends from 1931 and the listed romantic main organ with 56 stops.

The organ was built in 1930 by the organ builder Franz Breil (Dorsten) with 56 stops on three manual works and a pedal ( cone chest ). In 1965 the instrument was restored by the builder; it got a new gaming table and three registers were replaced. In 1980 the organ of the chapel of the Prosper Hospital, which had been built by Orgelbau Breil, was housed in the choir apse as a choir organ in a new case. In 1987 a new five-manual console was installed from which the choir organ can also be played; the two manual works of the choir organ can be played as remote works I and II from the main organ. The organ system has a total of 70 registers. The game and stop actions are electro-pneumatic.
