Pausanias Papageorgiou ( Greek Παυσανίας Παπαγεωργίου , May 28, 1978 in Piraeus ) is a Greek lawyer and politician. He is Secretary General for Youth of the Government in the cabinet of Alexis Tsipras II , which emerged from the parliamentary elections in September 2015.

Origin and studies

He grew up in Etoliko, Mesolongi Municipality , Prefecture of Aetolia-Acarnania . In 1996 he graduated from a Greek public school from Lyceum. He studied at the law faculty of the University of Hamburg, where he graduated in 2005. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Humanities in the Department of Language, Literature and Media at the same university and obtained his master's degree with the grade 'very good' in 2011. He took part in interdisciplinary research programs and gained teaching experience in Germany. The subject of his scientific research is legal linguistics and in particular the grammatical interpretation and verbal formulation of legal terms and texts as well as the relationship between law and language culture. He has many years of practical experience in the field of lifelong learning by defining programs for multilingual citizens with a migration background aimed at their integration into the European social and cultural fabric. He is the great-grandson of the general, minister and mayor of Athens, Pausanias Katsotas . Pausanias Papageorgiou is married and has one son.

politics

In the parliamentary elections of September 20, 2015, he was a candidate for SYRIZA in the constituency of Aetolia-Akarnanien [3] in the Ministry of State of Nikos Pappas . he worked as a special advisor [4] and from November 2015 to August 2018 as Secretary General for Lifelong Learning and Youth of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs [5] under Education Minister Nikos Filis and the subsequent Education Minister Kostas Gavroglou.

From August 2018 until today he is Secretary General for Youth. He is also a member of the Management Board of the European Center for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop). In June 2018, under his supervision, the draft ten-year strategy framework for strengthening youth, entitled "Youth 17-27", was finalized. This document describes the principles and objectives of youth policy in Greece, taking into account its modern transformations and its sociological, economic and cultural dimensions. It is the result of wide-ranging consultation with young people and youth organizations across the country. It is the third national youth strategy in the transition period from 1974 until today. In August 2018, he submitted the resumption of the General Secretariat for Youth to the responsible committee for education issues of the Greek Parliament, which then came into force on August 3, 2018. On October 11, 2018, he and the Federal Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, Franziska Giffey , signed the agreement for the German-Greek Youth Office (DGJW), a bilateral youth organization between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Hellenic Republic.
