Pavan K. Varma

Pavan K. Varma (born November 5, 1953 in Nagpur , Maharashtra , India ) is an Indian diplomat , historian and author.

Life

Varma studied history at St. Stephen's College in New Delhi and then graduated from Delhi University with a law degree . He joined the diplomatic service of his country in 1989 and was at the embassy in Moscow until 1999 . Then he was in the Representation of India at the UN in New York and later in London , where he was director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center.

In 2007 Varma became Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations , then High Commissioner in Cyprus and since 2010 Ambassador to India's neighboring country Bhutan .

Varma was press secretary to the Indian President and spokesman for the Foreign Office. His publications include numerous books that shed light on the cultural aspects of his homeland and its future.
