Pavel Cebanu (born March 26, 1955 in Reni , now Ukraine ) is a former Soviet football player , now a Moldovan football official. He is considered one of the best Moldovan football players to date.

Cebanu spent his entire career at Zimbru Chișinău from 1973 to 1985 , although he was at times courted by large Soviet clubs. He was called "Zé Maria" by the fans because he resembled this Brazilian player in his playing technique and physique.

After his active career, he first went to a coaching academy. Then he worked at home and in Romania for numerous clubs, including Zimbru, FC Amocom Chișinău , Speranța Nisporeni and Olimpia Satu Mare .

In 1996 he started as General Secretary of the Moldovan Football Association , on February 1, 1997 he became the association's president.

In 2003 he was elected “Golden Player” of Moldova, the most important Moldovan player of the last 50 years. He did not complete an international match for either the Soviet Union or Moldova, which became independent in 1991.
