José Maria Rodrigues Alves , short Zé Maria (born May 18, 1949 in Botucatu ) is a former Brazilian football player. He played as a defender . His greatest success was winning the 1970 World Cup .

Most of his career he was active for Corinthians São Paulo , for which he also worked as a coach after his career ended in 1983.

National team

Between 1968 and 1978 Zé Maria completed 47 international matches for the Brazilian national soccer team , with which he took part in two world championships. When he won the title in 1970 he was not used, but four years later played four games at the 1974 World Cup and reached fourth place with Brazil.
