The Pacific red tongue ( Microstomus pacificus ) is a flatfish from the northeastern Pacific. Their distribution area ranges from the Bering Sea to Baja California . They live on soft soils, at depths of 10 to 1370 meters, in winter they migrate into deeper water.

features

The Pacific red tongue has an elongated, asymmetrical, laterally strongly flattened body. Both eyes are on the right side of the body. The mouth is small and does not reach the front edge of the lower eye. The dorsal fin begins above the center of the upper eye. The caudal fin is rounded. The lateral line organ is almost straight. Pacific snot tongues grow up to 76 centimeters long. The eye side is brown, the fins dark. The blind side is light to dark gray, sometimes with red spots. Pacific snot tongues are very slimy.

use

Pacific snot is caught and sold as fillet for human consumption or made into animal feed.
