The Pearce, Urquhart and Hervey Islands Important Bird Area , an Important Bird Area in the Northern Territory in Australia , consists of three small, neighboring islands with a common protection zone of 9  hectares in the western part of the Gulf of Carpentaria . The three islands are part of the Sir Edward Pellew Islands . They are located northeast of the North Iceland group of islands.

The islands are a traditional Aboriginal land . Pearce Island is only covered by sparse vegetation. Hervey Rocks is a small, partially overgrown, rocky islet with a small spit . Urquhart Island is a fairly large, flat, rounded and overgrown island formed by rock and reef debris.

Bird species

These islands are recognized by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because more than 1% of the world's population of the common tern (more than 50,000 birds) and the rose tern (more than 17,500 birds) breed there, as well as the chin tern and black-necked tern .

The islands are also visited by sea turtles such as barrier reef turtles , green turtles and leatherback turtles to lay their eggs.
